Daily Travel Description – 3-day Safari Etosha Park

Day 1

Windhoek –  Taleni Etosha Village (Etosha South) | Travel time about 5 hours – 450 km

I will meet you at the Hosea Kutako International Airport upon your arrival or alternatively at your accommodation in Windhoek before we embark on a scenic journey north to reach the “Taleni Etosha Village”. Enough time for refreshment and a lunch break before we leave the lodge and drive into the Etosha National Park through the “Andersson Gate”. After a short drive, we arrive at the Okaukuejo Rest Camp, the starting point for our afternoon game drive. Okaukuejo was originally the site of a German fortress from 1901. We will visit some waterholes and hopefully see some of the astonishingly large numbers of animal species that regularly visit these waterholes. These include the endangered black rhinoceros, cheetah, and the rare black-faced impala among other antelope species, elephants, and lions. We will return to our accommodation before the gate closes and look forward to a spectacular Etosha game drive through the park the next day.

Day 2

Etosha Süd –  Mushara Lodge (Etosha East) | Travel time approx. 4 hours – 140 km

Our eventful second day in Etosha National Park begins after a full English breakfast. We drive again through the “Andersson Gate” into the park and now east past several water holes to reach our half-goal at Halali Camp at noon. Here we stop for a light lunch and can refresh ourselves in the swimming pool to continue our journey to the “Mushara Lodge”. We pass several water holes again and will undoubtedly get a lot of wildlife into the photo lens. There is enough time to stop to take photos, especially with a wonderful view of the distant Etosha Pan. The pan is usually dry in the winter months and only contains water during the rainy season. The pan itself covers about 25 percent of the entire Etosha National Park. In the late afternoon, we reach Fort Namutoni Rest Camp, an old German fortress that is now used as an accommodation facility. Here we have the opportunity to take a few photos of the old fort and to visit the memorial of the Ovambo warriors who attacked the fort on January 28, 1904, under the leadership of Captain Shivute. Our last game drive takes us around the Fisher Pan, which offers excellent viewing opportunities, especially in the months of December to April, when large flocks of flamingos and other bird species make the pan their home. We now leave the park via “Von Lindequist Gate” and turn right after the gate to reach the unique “Mokuti Etosha Safari Lodge”, which is located on its own 4000-hectare private game reserve. After a delicious buffet dinner on the terrace in the garden, we retire for the night.

Overnight: Mushara Lodge – dinner and breakfast included

Day 3

Mushara Lodge – Windhoek | Travel time about 6 hours – 500 km

Today we leave the Mushara Lodge and the Etosha National Park and drive back to Windhoek. After a very relaxed breakfast, we go on a fairly long drive south. The route takes us through Tsumeb, Otavi, and Otjiwarongo, all well-established cities in Namibia with a good mix of all races and cultures of our country. Okahandja is our last stop today before we arrive in Windhoek. This is an ideal opportunity to visit the largest wood carving market in Namibia and also famous for Namibia’s best “Biltong” and “Droe Wors” (air-dried seasoned meat and sausage).

In the late afternoon, we are back in Windhoek and our  3-day Etosha Safari has ended. I will take you to your accommodation or alternatively to the airport for your return flight.
